Carmel Kerrigan Cunningham

Carmel Kerrigan Cunningham, 92, formerly of the Bellevue section of Scranton, died on Sunday morning at Life Care Center, Port St. Lucie, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Michael (“Cutser”) Cunningham, who died in 2019, after 64 years of marriage.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Gerard Kerrigan and Carmel McPhillips Kerrigan McDonnell. A graduate of West Scranton High School, she was employed by Schreiber’s Mens Clothing store. After her marriage to Cutser she stayed at home to raise her 5 children. An active member of Holy Cross Church until its closing, Carmel was a member of the Mens and Womens Society and a devout catholic who never missed mass on Sunday. As a member of the Bellevue Card Club, Carmel played faithfully for more than 50 years with her sisters and best friends. She will be deeply missed, but fondly remembered, by all who knew her.
Surviving are her five children, Patricia Augelli, and husband Geno, Myrtle Beach, SC; Jane Ligon, and husband Jim, Wilmington, NC; Robert, Jr., and wife Dottie, Scranton; Karen Norkaitis, and husband George, Port St. Lucie, FL; Jerry, and wife Lenora, Waverly; sisters, Patricia Ward, Scranton; Madelon Williams, Lebanon, NH; Barabara Harding, and husband Bill, LaPlume; Catherine Flynn, Scranton; and brother, Michael McDonnell, and wife Marie, Lititz; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Carmel was preceded in death by her grandson; Jonathan Jurbala; stepfather, Jerome McDonnell; her sister; Eleanor Kerrigan; and her brothers-in-law, Matthew Flynn, Bill Williams, and John and Lawrence Cunningham.
The funeral will be conducted on Saturday, January 18, 2025, with Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 1403 Jackson St., Scranton. Friends may call at the church from 9:00 until the time of services. Interment following at Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
