Frank Swaha
February 28, 2025
Frank Swaha, 84, of North Scranton, died on Friday at Allied Services Hospice Center, Scranton. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mildred Lasher Swaha, who died in 2017.
Born in Scranton, the second youngest of twelve children born to the late Michael and Alexandra Watkola Swaha, he was educated in Scranton public schools before enlisting in the United States Navy at age seventeen. That military training, discipline, and experience, coupled with a rock-solid work ethic, prepared him well for a long career in the plumbing trade. He worked hard every day as owner of Swaha Plumbing and Heating. For generations of customers, he provided expert Master Plumber services reliably and honestly. If you knew the man known as Frank, Frankie, Big Daddy and Pop, he cursed a lot, in blunt and artful language. He was the guy who would do anything for anybody, who took care of his family unconditionally--they would never have to do without, he would always find a way. The same was true for his grandchildren. He taught a lot of life lessons and never sugar coated anything. An avid outdoorsman, he loved the solitude that fishing afforded. And he was a faithful fan of the Detroit Lions. If you knew Frank, you knew his love for his dog Cookie. The family takes great comfort in the thought that he went to heaven to be with his beloved wife, Millie, and will cherish the great memories they had.
Frank is survived by a son, Frank Swaha (Anne), Scranton, a daughter, Christine Utter (David), Scranton, two sisters, Eleanor Hollingsworth, Scranton, and Stella Owens, Scranton, three grandchildren, Dominic Swaha (Kristen), Frankie Swaha (Revonda), and Amanda Utter, two great-grandchildren, Blake and Brynnlee Swaha, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by siblings, Catherine Price, Michael, Fred, Alec, Nicholas, and John Swaha, Rose Pozniak, Olga Prenzyna, and Mary Klepadlo.
The funeral will be conducted on Thursday, March 6, 2025, with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 am in Holy Rosary Church at Mary, Mother of God Parish, 320 William St., Scranton. The family will receive relatives and friends at the church from 9:00am until the commencement of services. Interment to follow in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
Arrangements are entrusted to Edward Knight O'Donnell Funeral Home, LLC, 323 William Street, Scranton.
