Glenn M. Popien
April 15, 2023
Glenn M. Popien, 62, of Jefferson Township, died unexpectedly on Saturday at Geisinger-CMC,
Scranton. He is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Kathryn McCormack Popien.
Born in Scranton, son of Eugene Popien and the late Rose Yanac Popien, Glenn was a graduate
of West Scranton High School. At West, this gifted, natural athlete excelled in swimming for the
Invaders, and it was where he met the best lifelong friends a kid could ever have. He would
attend Penn State before marrying Kathy and beginning his rewarding career in the tile
installation business. A highly skilled artisan, his talents are displayed in countless area homes
and businesses. Glenn took great pride in the quality and intricate detail of his handiwork where
he developed lasting connections with his clients who greatly appreciated his craftsmanship and
respected him as an honest, kind, and hard-working tradesman.
Glenn was tireless in providing for his family, and was immensely supportive of all of their
endeavors. He was a fervent fan of Scranton Prep Football, never missing a game while his son,
Dylan, was playing on the Cavaliers O-Line, and afterwards. His favorite professional football
team was the Rams, and his serious mojo was undoubtedly instrumental in their two Super Bowl
victories. Music was another deep and abiding passion he shared, especially with his son Dylan.
He preferred his rock and roll to be Southern-Fried, as the Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd
were particular favorites.
Nature and the outdoors afforded him solitude and a quiet beauty. He could be found on
weekends on long, challenging hikes, family in tow, always knowing where to find the best
scenic spots, or visiting innumerable state parks, or vacationing at Fenwick Island, Delaware,
always creating unforgettable memories. Because to Glenn, all family time was quality time. At
home in his kitchen, he was an amazing chef, innovative, cooking wonderfully creative meals.
He loved all animals, but Mackenzie and Grey, the family felines, were just purrfect in his eyes,
his bright powder blue eyes.
Glenn Popien was a good man and lived a good life, as a committed, loyal, and ever self-sacrificing
father and husband who shared his love of life with everyone he crossed paths with.
In addition to his wife, Kathryn, he is survived by his son, Dylan Thomas; his father, Eugene; a
brother, Gene; a sister, Tracy Popien Fanning, and husband Thomas; and several nieces,
nephews, and cousins.
