Helen R. Hannon, 91, of Scranton, died peacefully at home on Sunday morning.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late John and Helen McDonald Hannon, she was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, class of 1950, and attended both Marywood College and the University of Scranton. Further study at the Lackawanna Business School developed her skills, before she embarked on a rewarding career with various federal agencies in Washington, D.C. Initially stationed at the Internal Revenue Service, Helen advanced to the Department of State, primarily working in European Personnel, and later would retire as Procurement Administrator from the Tobyhanna Army Depot, concluding a 33-year profession in government operations.
Helen travelled extensively and delighted in experiencing many cultures of the world. She was a lifelong parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church, a member of the Retired Federal Employees Federation and The Everhart Museum Association.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Alice Hannon Ratchford.
She is survived by her two nephews, Atty. Thomas J. Ratchford, and wife Julie, Old Forge, and Atty. David J. Ratchford, and wife Sharon, Clarks Green, and several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be conducted on Thursday, June 1, 2023, with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 am in Immaculate Conception Church, 800 Taylor Avenue, Scranton. The family will receive relatives and friends at the church from 9 am until commencement of services. Interment, St. Catherine’s Cemetery. Moscow.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Frank M. Regan Funeral Home, 323 William Street, Scranton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
