James P. Gilbride
August 24, 2023
James P. Gilbride, 76, of Covington Twp., died on Thursday morning at Regional Hospital, Scranton. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carleen Eglesia Gilbride.
Born in Scranton, son of the late Cyril and Joyce Clark Gilbride, he was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and went on to earn an associate’s degree at Lackawanna Junior College. A hard-working man from the go, Jim enjoyed a rewarding, 30-year career as a production foreman for the local defense contractor, the Chamberlain Corporation. But above all, Jim was truly a family man, loving, caring, devoted. He found great joy in supporting and celebrating milestone events in each and every family members’ lives, in his quiet, humble and humorous way. Jim had a very special bond with his grandson, as his doting “Pop Pop”, attending all of Angel’s sporting events as his biggest and most vocal fan. He was fascinated with birds, especially cardinals, and nothing could beat a peaceful day rocking on the front porch, crossword puzzle book in hand, with visits from his avian friends. Proud of his honorable service to his country in the U.S. Army, he found camaraderie with fellow veterans as members of the VFW#5209 on Oak Street.
He is also survived by a daughter, Amy Hammen, and husband Angel Torres, Jr of Tafton, a brother, Michael Gilbride, and wife Kathleen Casey, Olyphant, four sisters, Barbara Gilbride, Scranton, Debbie Dixon, and husband Joseph, Scranton, Rose Gilbride and husband Frank Pieski, Clarks Summit, and Linda Gilbride, Scranton, a grandson, Angel Luis James Torres, III, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Patrick, and a sister, Maryellen.
A public reception will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 from 5pm-7pm, at the Frank M. Regan Funeral Home, 323 William Street, Scranton.
