Julia M. "Dolly" Pron Nycz, 88, of the Buffalo, N.Y., area, formerly of Scranton, died peacefully on Jan. 12 at Mercy Hospital of Buffalo, while in Hospice Care. "Aunt Dolly," as she was affectionately known, was the widow of Leon Nycz, who died in 1998, after 48 years of marriage.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Stanley and Juel Franus Pron, she attended St. Stanislaus Polish School, South Scranton Junior High and graduated from Scranton Technical High School in 1946. Also, she received a medical assistant certificate in Scranton.
She resided for many years in Lackawanna, N.Y., with her family, and worked as a waitress in various local establishments before returning to the Scranton area. She was employed by NIEU as a driver for school children and Time Warner as an office/CD department worker. She retired in 1992.
After Leon's death in 1998, she moved back to the Buffalo area, where she enjoyed spending time with her daughter and son and their families. Recently, she resided in Elderwood Assisted Living at Hamburg, N.Y., with her sister-in-law, Regina Nycz.
Julia "Dolly" had a zest for life and lived by her creed of "I'll live until I die," and she did.
She loved her family and reveled in organizing and being actively involved in family parties, sports events and visits to the Buffalo Botanical Gardens with her two great-grandsons.
Julie also had a very active social calendar. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Cathedral PNCC, Scranton. As a young woman, she sang in the Fredrick Chopin Choir, participated in the Women's Sodality and was the first president of the YMS of R Auxillary Bowling League. She continued bowling in various leagues and tournaments (including the Classics) throughout her life until June 2016. Julie loved the activities at her Elderwood residence and celebrated her 88th birthday there with family. She loved when she and her sister, Estelle, were able to visit each other and share many priceless "Dolly & Sta" stories.
She will always be remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother.
