Margaret A. "Peg" Walters, 84, of Scranton, died Saturday evening at the Green Ridge Health Care Center. She was the widow of John L. Walters Sr., who died in 1975 after 25 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Agnes McCormick Lynott. After graduating from St. Paul's High School, class of 1951, she married Jack Walters, a neighborhood boy, and together they settled in the Green Ridge section of town, where they would raise their family for well over the next four decades.
Peg was a strong, caring, persevering mother. On her own time, she had passions for QVC, which expertly merged her two favorite pursuits of shopping and watching television, the Washington Redskins and Baltimore Orioles, Waterford Crystal, and she regularly enjoyed the camaraderie at the Ukrainian Club on Railroad Avenue.
The family would like to express its sincere appreciation to the staff at the Green Ridge Health Care Center, especially April Cleveland, all of whom made Peg's time there most welcoming and comfortable, and to Dr. Barry Minora, for his committed, compassionate medical care.
Peg is survived by two sons, John "Jack" Walters, Scranton; and James Walters, Portland, Ore.; a daughter, Margaret Ashman, Waymart; an inseparable granddaughter, Brandy Moon, Clarks Summit; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Walters; and a brother, Leo Lynott.
The funeral will be conducted Friday with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul's Church, 1510 Penn Ave., Scranton. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.
Arrangements, Frank M. Regan Funeral Home, 715 Linden St., Scranton.
