Patricia M. Nape, 96, of Ithaca, New York and formerly of Scranton, died on Saturday morning at home, surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Nape, who died in August of 1967.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late LeRoy and Irene King Cassebaum, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Claire Hennigan, Delores Yerke and Cecelia Kuchinski.
She was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. Pat earned her Bachelor’s degree from Marywood College and her Master’s degree from the University of Scranton.
Pat loved walks around Nay Aug Park and Lake Scranton, frequently accompanied by a beloved German Shepherd. She loved trips to the beach and swimming in the ocean. She was a voracious reader who valued her time as the leader of the Senior Learners’ Book Club at Marywood College. Patricia was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church Altar and Rosary Society where she loved singing with the choir. She began her teaching career in Home Economics at Scranton Junior High School, but later became certified to teach Science and was passionate about mentoring students and taking them to Penn State to compete in the Junior Academy of Science. She was also a moderator of the ski club and skied well into her seventies. Her greatest love was spending time with her family who will greatly miss her laughter, guidance and of course, whiskey sours.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Jennings and husband Jerry, of Ithaca, NY, and Madelyn Pfleckl, Scranton, fifteen grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Ann Nape Pietrowski and Nancy Nape Lavelle and a son, Robert L. Nape.
The funeral will be conducted on Saturday, July 13, 2024, with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:00 am in Immaculate Conception Church, 800 Taylor Avenue, Scranton. Interment to follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 5-7 pm at the Frank M. Regan Funeral Home, 323 William Street, Scranton. Those attending the funeral are asked to proceed directly to the church.
