December 28, 2024

Patricia A. Panko, 82, of Scranton, died on Saturday evening at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 30 years, Joseph Panko, who died in 2004.

Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Walter and Ann Romanauskas Skwish, she graduated from St. Paul’s High School in Scranton, and later attended The School of Practical Nursing in Scranton where she received her LPN license. She gave compassionate care to all her patients in the delivery room at Mercy Hospital, private doctor’s offices, and in the home of her patients.

Family and faith were most important to Patricia. While her children were at Robert Morris Elementary School she served as President of the PTA for a time and worked in the cafeteria. As her children grew, she always supported their passions and were there for them every step of the way through the years. Spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, was what she valued and loved most. She was a kind and strong person, who was always there for her family and friends in their time of need. She would stand up for what she believed in and made sure you knew it, this trait she passed on to her children. Faith was always a guiding light to her in how she lived, and was a member of Mary Mother of God Parish, where she served on the prayer group.

Patricia had many hobbies, from creating beautiful stained-glass pieces and floral arrangement to cake decorating. Ultimately, she loved baking delicious cakes and cookies, and was known for her chocolate chip cookies, but also, her amazing stuffing at Thanksgiving.

Patricia is survived by three children, Maureen Labrosky, husband Joseph, Taylor; William Panko, Scranton; and Stephanie McDonald, husband James, Throop; a sister, Joan Bank, San Francisco; two grandchildren, Samantha Labrosky and Dylan McDonald; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Joseph Skwish.

The family would like to thank the nurses, social workers and staff at the Hospice of Sacred Heart in Dunmore, who provided amazing care and compassionate support to them.

The funeral will be conducted on Friday, January 3, 2025, with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 am at Mary, Mother of God Parish, 316 William Street, Scranton. The family will receive relatives and friends at the church from 9:00 am until the commencement of services. Burial will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Frank M. Regan Funeral Home, 323 William Street, Scranton.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Mary, Mother of God Parish, 316 William Street, Scranton, PA 18508.
