Robert Michael (Cutser) Cunningham, 88, died Wednesday afternoon in Wilmington, N.C. His wife of 64 years is the former Carmel Kerrigan.
Born in Scranton, and a lifelong resident of the Bellevue section of the city, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Ann Corbett Cunningham. He attended West Scranton High School before enlisting in the United States Army and served during the Korean War. Cutser was employed by A&P Grocery for 23 years and then went on to work in maintenance for the Scranton School District until his retirement. An active member of Holy Cross Church until its closing, he was a member of the Holy Name Society and a church usher. Cutser was also a member of the Teamsters Union and the Irish American Men's Association.
His quick wit and jokes will long be remembered.
Surviving are his five children, Patricia Augelli and husband, Geno, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; Jane Ligon and husband, Jim, Wilmington, N.C.; Robert Jr. and wife, Dottie, Scranton; Karen Norkaitis and husband, George, Homestead, Fla.; Jerry and wife, Lenora, Waverly; a brother, Lawrence, East Stroudsburg; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, John.
The funeral will be conducted Tuesday with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, 1403 Jackson St., Scranton.
Friends may call Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Frank M. Regan Funeral Home, 715 Linden St., Scranton. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.
