William J. Williams
May 21, 2024
William J. “Bill” Williams, 86, of Scranton, passed peacefully on Tuesday afternoon surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Madelon Kerrigan Williams, formerly of Bellevue. He was the son of the late William Isaac and Helen McNamara Williams. Raised in the Bone Hill section of West Scranton, he was a 1955 graduate of West Scranton High School.
Bill enjoyed over 40 years of work in the finance industry, also attending night school at Penn State University working towards a Management Degree. He settled with his family in Allentown, continuing his successful career until he retired as Executive Vice President of Acquisitions for Bank of America. Additionally, he served in the naval reserves.
His greatest pride was his family; Madelon and his children Billy, Kelly, and Kim. Not only did Bill work hard but he also enjoyed family vacations like annual Ocean City trips, swim club memberships, and new cars. Bill was an amazing Father, Brother, Uncle, Son, Grandfather, and Friend. Bill willingly shared advice, and was always up for a good story, especially about his youth with the Bone Hill Indians. He was an avid golfer and car enthusiast, who loved showing off his train at Christmastime and working in the yard, where there was always something to rake.
He was known as Empty to his circle of friends with whom he enjoyed weekly golfing, movies, and Friday lunches. Dad was the kindest and most generous father and role model we could have ever imagined. He was always there for anyone who needed him. He will especially be remembered fondly as “Grand Pop” by his grandchildren who love him dearly.
He is survived by his children, William J. Williams, Jr., and life partner Lisa Kresge, Allentown, PA, Kelly Healey, and husband Sean, Etna, NH, and Kim Holmes, and husband Mark, Derry, NH, sister, Lucille Frank, and husband Artie, Clarks Summit, grandchildren Anna, Abe, and Grace Healey, and many nieces, and nephews.
The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Harvest Hill for their kind and compassionate care for Bill.
The funeral will be conducted on Friday, May 31, 2024, with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:30 am, in Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 South State Street, Clarks Summit. Burial will follow at Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
